"In Spite of it all" (2026)
Oil paint, screws, collage photographs on repurposed plywood, canvas. Custom log frame.
"In spite of it all" was created as a celebration of materials. Repurposing plywood from an old painting I used as a kitchen table in a past apartment. Repurposing canvas my family used as an awning for many years. Repurposing screws from old job sites i've worked on, holding cut up pictures from my past.
I wanted this piece to reflect a folk art style. I've always admired the bold simplicity of this genre of painting. Wanted the textures of the layered materials to be what defines this piece. Framing the work is a hand made log frame, using wood sourced from my family's cabin in northern B.C.
